Innovation that’s engineered

Built from first principles

The WaughHead helmet is not an equestrian helmet with a safety grille bolted on. It is a ground-up rebuild, engineered with modern materials and methods to raise the standard in safety, vision, weight, fit, airflow and style.

The optional twin-fan cooling system
01 · Ventilation & hearing

Combine the helmet’s best-in-class passive ventilation with our integrated fan system for those toughest of days at the crease in summer

The air-protection system and coverage area are designed to allow unparalleled ventilation and hearing, without compromising safety. CFD-optimised passive vents move heat off the head, and for the hottest days an optional internal 5V twin-fan draws cool air across your forehead and temples. Thermal performance by science, not luck.

  • Ventilation and hearing designed in, safety never traded out.
  • Optional 5V twin-fan for active cooling at the crease.
02 · HighBar retention

Open it with one hand, gloves on

The exclusive HighBar retention system replaces fiddly buckles with a flip chin bar and a twist dial. Flip the arms down under your chin, twist the dial to lock, and rotate them up out of the way when you are not wearing it. It is glove friendly and simple enough for a junior to operate entirely on their own.

Twist the dial clockwise to tighten and counter-clockwise to loosen the HighBar arms
Grip ring dial for easy micro-adjustments, a lightweight and durable hanger and arms, and an ultra comfortable chin pad that keeps the HighBar secure and in place
  • One hand, gloves on Flip down, twist to lock, push up out of the way. No fiddly buckles at the chin.
  • Junior friendly Secure and simple enough that a young player can put it on and take it off themselves.

03 · Impact-absorbing grille

A grille that absorbs, not just deflects

The magnesium grille is the lightest on the market, around 60% lighter than traditional steel and around 20% lighter than titanium. It is engineered to allow a calculated deformation on impact, absorbing energy to reduce the impact force and transfer to the head and neck, rather than passing it straight through.

  • Magnesium, the lightest grille on the market.
  • Calculated deformation designed to absorb impact, not transfer it.
The WaughHead Halo integrated grille structure
04 · Halo protection

The widest field of view, engineered as one

The grille, ear protection and peak reinforcement are formed as a single integrated structure that wraps beneath and inside the helmet peak, helping prevent a ball from passing through the open area. This reinforced design gives an exceptionally wide field of vision while maintaining a high level of protection, strength and confidence.

  • One integrated structure, not parts bolted together.
  • Closes the gap a ball can pass through, without narrowing your view.
The NURO impact-absorbing lattice liner
05 · Two-stage protection

The NURO liner, plus a comfort liner that fights back

The NURO impact-absorbing layer is exclusive to WaughHead. It manages direct impacts and allows for rotational movement, managing forces from any direction. Working with it is a cooling, shock-absorbing comfort liner: removable and moisture-wicking, it stays soft in normal play but instantly stiffens under impact to help reduce the transfer of force to the head.

  • NURO layer for direct and rotational impact management.
  • Comfort liner that stiffens on impact, a genuine two-stage system.

In Simple Terms

The NURO liner behaves like a network of hundreds of interconnected shock absorbers connecting your head and the outer shell of the helmet. It distributes the impact energy through its network of cells. It absorbs impact forces like the crumple zone of a car. It diverts rotational forces by flexing and gliding.

The NURO liner is designed to do a lot more than just compress upon impact. It responds dynamically against rotational forces, the kind of forces that do the most damage. It doesn’t just sit there, it reacts to effectively combat brain torque. Foam can’t do that. Not even close.

The NURO core is 93% porous, delivering stunning breathability and a lightweight feel

06 · Ear protection & airflow

Air in. Sound in. Heat out.

The ear section is built directly into the Halo ring, not attached as a separate, bolt-on component that looks like an afterthought. Its open architecture improves airflow and keeps players connected to the game: the call, the nick, the voice of a partner. Heat escapes more freely, while sound remains clear and unmuffled.

This isn’t a horse riding helmet adapted with a grille. It’s a purpose-built, first-principles design engineered for the demands of modern cricket.

  • Integrated into the Halo ring, bringing protection, ventilation and hearing together in one unified system.
  • Designed for what’s next, with the capacity to incorporate future communication technology and motion monitoring sensors.

07 · Best-in-class ventilation

Ventilation by science, not guesswork

Every vent has a purpose.

Unlike a bike helmet, cricket can’t depend on forward motion to generate airflow. That’s why our passive ventilation system was engineered using CFD to allow hot, humid air to escape through the NURO liner and give the head a chance to breathe.

It looks great, but every detail is driven by function.

No guesswork. Just science at work.

The WaughHead energy-absorbing comfort pad
08 · Comfort pad

Soft on the head, firm on impact

The crown pad is moulded from an energy-absorbing polymer that stays soft and forgiving against the head through the longest innings, then firms the instant it is struck, spreading and absorbing the energy before it reaches you. It is the same class of adaptive material trusted in industrial impact-safety helmets, tuned here for cricket. Open channels move air across the scalp, and the pad lifts out to wash.

  • Adaptive polymer that stays soft to wear and firms the instant it is struck.
  • Ventilated and removable, engineered to breathe, wash and last the distance.

09 · Light & balanced

Every gram, scrutinised

Advanced materials deliver high strength at significantly lower weight. The centre of gravity sits toward the crown rather than the front, reducing neck strain and fatigue, so the helmet feels lighter and performs over the longest innings.

Next generation protective gear

Using high-tech materials, our multi-layered protection system combines lightweight breathability with superior impact resistance. Three integrated technologies deliver structural strength, progressive energy absorption and advanced cellular lattice protection.

Lighter. Better. Cooler.

On-helmet 4K

The camera that sees what the batter sees

WaughHead 4K action camera mounted on the peak of a carbon helmet, shown with the retail box

Mounted to the peak of the helmet, the WaughHead 4K camera captures the game from the one angle no broadcast can reach: the batter's own eyeline. It is small and light enough to leave the helmet's balance untouched, records in true 4K, and sends footage straight to your phone over WiFi. A coaching tool, a highlights reel and a new way for fans to watch the game, all from one small camera.

  • True 4K clarity Sharp enough to break technique down frame by frame, or cut straight to highlights.
  • The batter's-eye view Clips to the peak for the exact point of view the player has at the crease.
  • Light and balanced Low mass and a low mount keep the helmet's centre of gravity where it belongs.
  • Magnetic quick-mount On and off in seconds, on the helmet or anywhere else you want the shot.
  • WiFi to your phone Review and share footage instantly, with no cables and no card readers.
  • Sound of the middle Built-in audio captures the nick, the call and the crowd.
Safety without compromise

Everything proven, nothing asserted

WaughHead is developed to the BS 7928 standard, with certification planned through specialist UK laboratories. Two-stage impact management, a grille engineered to deform rather than transfer force, and Halo protection that closes the gap a ball can pass through. We refuse any trade-off between safety, comfort, vision, fit and performance.
